Those in charge would reckon you’re a crucial worker – that’s to say, your job is pretty darn important.
Now, when the big shots claim you can’t have a raise, they really mean your worth is more theirs. They dangle job insecurity over you, snatch away your right to live freely. It’s like a kind of bondage.
To keep the wealthy in check is a must, but it does need a whole lot of people on board. Quite a task to hold onto democratic control long enough so the other side eventually throws in the towel. In our world, cash is king, so naturally the one with the most always comes out on top. And that’s usually the rich bunch. The system is totally messed up.
But it’s about properly overseeing financial stuff – no sneaky insider deals, no pals helping pals, no big-money bets against your funds… it’s all just nuts.
You fancy being in the same league as the loaded folks? Go ahead and give it a shot, but remember, the current members prefer to keep their group ultra-exclusive, that’s sort of the whole deal.
So how do you keep an eye on these folks without stirring up some real issues for them – you know, genuine issues like food, a roof over their heads, basic human rights, and the freedom to earn within the bounds of the law?
How do they rake in their dough, especially when it’s at the expense of other people’s lives? The more harmful their gig, the more tax they should pay. Obviously, the big environmental headache is also our biggest headache – burning fossil fuels without a care.
There is demand for certain fossil fuel goods, it’s just that burning them messes up the air. This pollution chokes us, starting with the oceans and creeping onto the land. Is this really unfolding?
The tricky bit is, we can’t just halt it all at once, we can only put the brakes on. Sure, let’s admit that the climate’s in trouble and things are changing, but don’t ever underestimate our human knack for setting things on fire.
